4th Successful Workshop by GACS



Gujarat Academy of Creative Studies started Printing Technology Education since 6 months. As a part of education activity – GACS arranges monthly workshops for Designers and Printers. This was our 4th workshop which was held on 25th – 27th June, 2011. 

Participants from overall Gujarat took part in it and got very useful information, knowledge and guidance. Designers and Printers from Vapi, Valsad, Surat, Jamkhambhalia and Rajkot participated, some of them are Offset printers, Screen printers and most of them are Designers. Motto of GACS is to make them aware of new software, technology and design techniques. After completion of 3 days participants agreed that they got such wealth of useful information which they would not have thought of.
On 1st day of workshop, morning session was about Adobe InDesign software, Mr. Pankaj Paun – Head Of Department - GACS, explained each and every tool and menu to participants with the help of slide show. Complete workshop was based on Audio/Visual presentation.




InDesign is a latest version of Adobe Page Maker, but it has now lots of tools available which help you to make your design very nice and creative. It has facility of Columns/Margin/Number of Pages which is very useful to setup News Paper and Magazine, it has also so many facility of Photoshop like Drop Shadow, Feather, Live Effects, so you do not need to go to any other software while creating your designs. With the help of InDesign Mr. Pankaj shows that you can create any page layout like 3/2 fold brochures; File Folder, Stationery or even you can create Album Pages.
 
This is very useful information for us, because we wasted lots of time till today – said Mr. Aplesh Pandya – one of the participants.Mr. Jignesh Chavda, Mr. Suresh, Mr. Sandeep all said that we will start learning and working with Adobe Indesign from very next day of workshop, because we never thought that we could get such facilities in this software.
In afternoon session, everybody went to see 4 color printing process on Komori Offset. Where participants were taught how to make pasting, plate exposing and developing, each process was described by Mr. Sunil Ambasana – Partner of Gujarat Printers and Gujarat Academy.







After that participants clamp plates into Komori 19”x25” 4 color offset machine, and printed one job online, they also informed what is the use and importance of “Cutting Mark”, “Registration Mark”. Some of the participants confessed that we never know this process requires this much of attention. They did the complete job and said that we never seen this process before as a Designer we will take care of each and everything now onwards.
2nd day of workshop: For this session everybody were very much excited to meet Mr. Devang Sheth – Editor and Publisher of “Screen Print India” magazine. Heprovided important information regarding Screen Printing Business and possibilities of Screen Printing Process in various field. The name of the topic was “Emerging & Existing Technologies” - Advancing the High-techScreen Printing Community in India”. With the help of Power Point Presentation Mr. Devang provided very useful and important information to all the participants, he added that – “Whether visible to the eye or not, screen printing affects us in our surroundings and has becomepart of our daily lives.”






He also made them aware about the Value Addition possibilities in Printing Jobs, and added that in future offset printers must require screen printing technique for this purpose, he advised screen printers to get aware of new technology and ask to apply immediately, this is the only option you can grow faster and make your business better.Mr. Devang’s visit was inspiring and encouraging for all the participants and specifically Screen Printers.
In afternoon session of 2nd day, participants visited Gujarat Graphics Pvt. Ltd. – Metoda to print live job of Screen Printing with UV ink and UV curing.






 Screen Printing with UV ink is now-a-days very much popular and required technology to know. With the help of UV ink and different kind of UV Varnishes we can get unbelievable effects which are known as Value Addition to 4 color printed jobs. Effects like “Emboss”, “Sand”, “Crystal”, “Wrinkle”, “Icy” and “3d”. Such effects we can get with this process we can never expect from Offset.UV ink has a special feature in it that it never dry without passing it from UV Lamp. Use of UV Ink can save lots of things like Time, Chemical etc. (You never need to wash your screen when you require to stop working, because it never got dry on screen frame).
3rdday was fantastic for all the participants, because Mr. Vishal Ambasana – Creative Head of GACS, shared his knowledge about color.Color is very important part of Printing Process, because it can make your job awesome and if you don’t care about it, it can ruin your complete job.


This session started with Color Theory, where Mr. Vishal taught that how to identify color, color management and creation. How to select colors is also very important part, from there they took participants up to that level where each participant able to edit colors in Photoshop. Participants said that they were working since 5-6 years, but never knows why our jobs not get perfectly printed, we got the tricks and tips now we can correct colors in any image.
Mr. Vishal describes different tools in detail “Level”, “Curves”, “Channel Mixer” and many others. They taught about Layer effects and also provided tutorial images to all.
“Be creative…!!!” In this session Mr. Vishal provided tips to develop creativity, design thinking and vision. They gave a project name and business theme (fast food parlor) to create logo, character and slogan. After discussion and debate with Mr. Vishal participants created a unique logo and character. All participants committed that they never did such kind of work before and now we can create logos with theme and thinking, this session was awesome for us.






Purpose of three days workshop was 100% fulfilled by GACS and provided lots of information about Printing Technology. Each participant awarded by “Certificate” at the end of 3rd day session.
